The purpose of the renovation project of the Nantes Natural History Museum (MHNN) is to provide the City of Nantes with a completely renovated and efficient place that will echo the cultural dynamism of the city. Indeed, the current building does not meet standards, particularly in terms of accessibility, including in the parts open to the public and not very efficient from a technical point of view. In addition, the museography and scenography no longer meet the expectations of the management.
The City of Nantes has therefore decided to undertake major renovation work to achieve the functional objectives, updating the scientific, technical and environmental discourse.
Working alongside one of the finalist teams led by Japanese architect Kengo Kuma provided the acoustic design for the proposed project, which includes an exhibition hall, a new central atrium located in the old auditorium and a 200-seat auditorium.
The winner of the competition is Moatti-Rivière Architectes.
