Creative Acoustics & Auralisation
Creativity is inherent to the way we work at Studio Jouan. Our team brings together acousticians, engineers, researchers, sound designers and sound artists, with experience gained in leading international acoustic, theatre design and multidisciplinary engineering practices, as well as major academic research institutions.
Our work spans concert halls, opera houses and theatres, museums and galleries, airports and stations, hotels and retail environments, as well as sound art and temporary installations. This breadth of experience allows us to approach acoustic design both technically and creatively.
Our approach is collaborative. We use interactive 3D audio and visualisation technologies where they add genuine value, helping architects, clients, operators, performers and audiences understand how a space will work before it is built.
Innovation and lateral thinking are central to our development. Our experience with temporary structures, design festivals and independent sound-art projects continually informs the way we approach permanent buildings and new forms of audience experience.
Auralisation is one of our key tools. When appropriate, we create immersive simulations using binaural audio with visual headsets or ambisonic reproduction in the Sorbonne 3D sound laboratory led by Dr Brian Katz. This allows clients and design teams to experience proposed acoustic conditions during design, compare options and make better-informed decisions long before construction is complete.
